First off, I want to express how funny and humorous this story was. I just love the humor Julia puts in her dialog’s between her characters. She never fails to make me laugh that’s for sure.
Our hero and heroine have known each other since childhood as he frequently visits the Smythe-Smith household as he is friends with her older brother Daniel. Daniel asks Marcus to look out for Honoria while she attends the London Season, scaring off suitors since he is currently out of the country. One day Honoria digs a hole, trying to feign a sprained ankle. Marcus secretly watches her, wondering what on earth she is up to, confronts her, and just his luck, accidentally steps in her hole and twists his ankle. Marcus later develops an infection in his leg from having to have his boot cut off with scissors. Honoria and her mother visits and takes care of him while he is sick due to him having no family. After spending close time with each other while he is recovering, he starts to realize he has romantic feelings for her, and he then kisses her.
After he recovers and gets back on his feet, he follows Honoria back to London for the season, he gets jealous of the men paying attention to her. She starts acting differently, coming to realize , she too, has feelings for Marcus. He confronts her, asking what’s the matter with her. She tells him Daniel will be back soon, so he is relieved of booking out for her. He tells he, doesn’t want to be relieved, that he wants to kiss her, that he wants her, and burns for her. Then he kisses her, taking her to bed. Later that night after they return to the party and he receives a good thrashing from Daniel whom shows up without a word as he sees Marcus kissing his sister, proposes marriage to her.
This was my first official read by Julia which got me hooked to her books and writing, making me an instant fan of hers. No one writes hilariously laugh out loud scenes such as she. Whom ever thought to write about one hallucinating about a giant rabbit swinging a huge carrot around like a mace – Julia does of course! If you are looking for a historical romance author whom writes very good and highly funny witty dialogs’, make sure you give her a try, you sure won’t be disappointed.
